Overview
#1 Find and solve bugs in cw1
#1.1 Refactor cw1, solve critical issues, make it manageable.
#2 solid code base, all bugs cleared then think what features the CW Engine needs
#2.1 Make xml files of cw data classes
#2.2 write down needed classes for the CW Engine
#2.3 Agree with everyone of the community on the game framework to be chosen for the next version. = Slick2D
#3 After the jan release:
#3.1 Start dev generic CW2 Engine
#3.2 create todo list for CW2
#3.3 Create default impl of CW2 Engine
#4 when we finish with the CW2 Engine start to create default game

It would be nice if we all shared a common vocabulary so if a person talks about something cw related everybody knows what he is talking about(not only the regulars).
It's important that we speak the same language and that others can learn this language.

The glossary can now be found on the wiki:

This looks a bit like a collection of the information you have gathered since on the forums :) .
If you wanted to start a glossary you could put it on the documentation wiki but it would soon go out of date and I doubt anyone would check it.

The prime concern is of course the current code base and bringing it up to scratch. Like it or not it will be here and then 'prime earner' of public interest for a long time.
Yes at the moment it would be good if as many people as possible developed informed impressions or even better some sort of tiny experience of the frameworks which it looks like will serve as a base for the new code base.

yes I think people who don't have time to read all topics should be up to speed with this overview, that's the intention :)
Refactoring is an art, so instead of debugging we will refactor current code which is not the same thing...

Can we pick a name from this list and stick to it? Having 4 names for the same thing says something about how creative humans are in making up names :D

No they are most definetly not the same thing :)
Refactoring is the practice of stripping back code to its most descriptive and simplistic state while maintaining the original functionality. Debugging is a witch hunt.

I like the name: "The war engine" . It describes both the fact that we provide plugin based customized wars and also eludes to some sort of war machine. Like how the name cannon fodder was a good name for that game.

I like CW engine or CWE more
We are making a custom wars engine, people can customize the engine... :hit:

if people really wanted to recreate aw then they customize it that way...

There is an Alphabetised version of the glossary on the wiki.

Yeah I laughed too! Very creative! After thinking about it, I'd like to also side with stef and just keep with the plain name 'customwars engine' or C.W.E. . That glossary is going to be a lot of effort to keep up to date stef.

Nice! I'll post a link to the wiki, I tried to add it already but it wasn't a success :)

Sorry St Johnston, I actually meant to direct the comment to your fine self. I'll be a lot of work to keep the wiki up to date but that seems like your bag so fair enough.
