Networking works, but it can be rather difficult to get working properly on the Internet.

Here are the steps needed to play a game:
1. Make sure you have Alpha35+ and that all players are using the same version of CW
2. Start CW and open Options
3. Hit z on Set IP and type in the IP of the player who's turn comes after yours
4. Balance mode should also be the same on all computers, otherwise some players will be able to use unbalanced characters
5. Return to the main menu and start a network game
6. Set up the scenario (note: only the first player needs to set the game up properly, the other players can pick an arbitrary scenario...but they must be in-game to receive)
7. Player 1 does their turn and chooses Send in the in-game menu
8. Player 2 will get a dialog box that asks if they want to receive the data. Type y to accept.
9. Repeat 7 and 8 for each player in turn, until the game is finished

Connection Problems:
CW's networking code is very simplistic. As such, it can only handle the simplest connections, such as a LAN connection. It has problems with DSL and computers behind routers (and probably most other connection types too). Here are two known solutions:
1. If you are behind a router, you can either forward port 4444 to your computer or put your computer in the DMZ. Using port forwarding is fairly safe. Using the DMZ is not recommended, since it gives the Internet access to your computer.
2. Use VPN software to connect your computer to another computer over a virtual LAN. Hamachi works well: http://www.hamachi.cc/. This option can be extremely dangerous, because it gives the other person(s) very intimate access to your computer, since it is the same as being connected via a home LAN. ONLY USE THIS OPTION IF YOU TRUST THE OTHER PERSON 100%.
