I'm not sure if it helps, but in AWDS, I found that although the enemy suffers from FOW, they do seem to know exactly where your units are. This was tested and found in the forest heavy Leaf Haven Map. I was in the center of the southern road, and ran south, and then counterclockwise(in an APC with that forest=one move skill). They followed me counterclockwise, even though they couldn't see me.

yeah, everytime I play Kita's Straight, the enemy always sends its cruiser into my sub [it's dived so it isn't attacked]. It's really stupid that they know where they are... espicially when they have two cruisers

I don't think the situation can improve though. Without knowing where your units are, the AI isn't smart enough to survive at all. With a smarter AI, I suppose it can "look out" for dived subs and cloaked stealths if they were built. It would still be a stretch.

EDIT: I agree with the split. This isn't about COs at all.

I split this from the index. It's important enough to have its own topic.

AI doesn't know where dived Subs and cloaked Stealths are. You are just very, very unlucky. In all my 300+ hours of playing AWDS (I have no life ;_;) I have only had the AI go straight to my sub 10 times at maximum, and that only happens the turn after I've dived it. Which isn't so uncommon, as even humans do that on the cart (impossible on AWBW, no animations).

And yes, AI does suck balls in fog.

I believe the AI does know where your units are, but it cannot 'see' them nor attack them, unlike in AW1 and AW2. Eventhough it doesn't say it, when the AI runs into your sub they are effectively getting trapped, but unlike human players where you can abuse it and search around for units (while using up fuel) the AI goes straight to it. If this didn't happen the AI wouldn't stand a chance in fog as it wouldn't know what to do. The AI acts by countering how you act, if it didn't know what you were doing it wouldn't know how to act and you would face the same game against it all the time as it would have a generic walkthrough that it would follow.

Oh really? I've had situations where I've had a stealth cloaked for at least 2 or 3 days, and enemy units manuver around my units to find said stealth. At which point, the enemy fighters can blast it out of the sky. Same type of effect for subs, although less common(I don't really use subs much anymore. I'm more than happy to chip off health with cruisers).

The AI is cheap. Granted, it needs to be cheap to work well, but that doesn't eliminate the fact that it is cheap.

At least it's not as bad as the AW1 AI.

My turn.

*hides a recon in forest, sees nothing but a rocket unit on road 4 spaces away.*

Enemy turn.

*first action, enemy fires rockets at recon.*

"WTF?"

In AW1 and AW2 the enemy can see everywhere but forests and reefs unless a unit is next to them, so that scenario above wouldn't happen...

I had a FoW match before with a friend against the AI. I used Counterbreak as Sonja in a heavily-wooded map. During the AI's next turn, the AI's fighter weaved a perfect path through my units, using up all of its 9 moves. It knows where enemies are in FoW at least. I'm guessing it also knows where subs and stealths are from experience as B Ships move backwards just out of my dived sub's range often.

In AW2, yes, that is true. I'm pretty sure the AI knows where you are in woods in AW1. *goes off to test*.

Edit: Gah, I hate it when you're right.

No fog stays, it's a part of AW, it's a part of war games in general.
