Post subject:  Well hello there

Hi, I'm new to this forum :)

I discovered it while browsing the internet for some Advance Wars sprites (give me a good source for AWDS sprites please!) for a little game I'm making. Advance Wars is one of my favourite games, and I think I'll be a worthy opponent in CW (completed AWDS hard campaign in one go with S-rank).

I like how far CW is now ((Beta 22), but I still miss a lot of things mainly in game design. So I hope I can contribute to this project with my knowledge and experience in game making :)

Yo. For anything sprite related, the Graphics forum is a solid bet. They pretty much take charge of all the visual aid (except animations, Captain Vimes is taking the helm there). You seem to be an interesting fellow, or at least that's the impression your site gave. Hope to see some great contributions from you!

when you say game making, how in-depth were you in making said game(s)?

For a better picture you can look at the projects placed on my website:
http://www.clavusstudios.nl/gamemaker.html

The game L.E.I.P was one of the top-winners on the Dutch national make-a-game contest, so you could say I'm quite good at making games :)

Theoretically I think I can totally recreate Advance Wars, but practically I always end up closing down my most ambitious projects due to lack of motivation. Working on things alone can be boring :?

But I can deliver, as long as I keep my interest in a project!

Welcome, Joerdgs. I can't wait to see what you've created. Also, I hope I can find a way to motivate you.

Y'know, our head programmer is leaving soon. If you have skills in game-making using Java, maybe you'd like to join the programming team?

It's been a while since we've gotten a new user with programming talent. Welcome to our project, and enjoy your stay.

I've never really programmed with Java. Only made a few 'drawings' with it for a school project a few years ago. My skills are only Game Maker compatible at the moment.

But I think that's about to change, since I'm going to university this year to study Informatics. I'll be learning a lot of new programming languages 8)

Welcome! I'm Guesty, I'm very glad to meet you. I hope you enjoy your stay, Joerdgs. Good luck with learning the programming languages, by the way.

I found those already. Thanks anyway :)

The main things I'm trying to find are the animations. Where can I find the Megatank battle animation for example? Or overworld movement animation of ALL units? I've been searching for a while but nobody seems to have a complete collection of the AWDS sprites.

Xaif is supposedly in the process of making them all.

When they get done they should be up on the Graphics Dept photobucket account.

'supposedly'? Hehe, I can wait if needed. It is kinda strange that even long after the release of AWDS there is nowhere a complete collection to be found.

REAL MEN PROGRAM IN C++ AND VISUAL BASIC

uh, with that out of the way there was a plan to nag someone
uh I mean start a side project of CW based on the Combat Mode of AWDS. Like...Custom Combat >_>

I guess you could throw together something like the code used in Atom Collector to put something together, except you'd need to integrate shooting into the engine.
Then there's the fun of CO Powers and whatnot. >_>
A user named Shinko was going to work on it but he ended up turning the game into a Pac-Man clone which is not quite what we were looking for...however, Atom Collector IMO is more similar to Combat Mode's engine, and with a few tweaks and added mechanics should run just fine.

also: lol holland
My friend Lara lives in Holland and so does Laurens
They're both very cool people and I'm assuming you are too <:3

also: ome henk sdfdsfhsdfj and that song "neem een ander in de maling" and "op de camping" dakljjhqwkl

Greeting good sir,
You seem to be doing a mighty fine job thus far. Welcome to custom wars and I hope you may find everything that you are looking for here:

http://www.customwars.com/viewtopic.php?t=4204

If not try here:

http://www.awbunker.com/forums/index.ph ... opic=27554

Still custom wars master gallery is probably your best bet. If you are looking for custom made stuff on the other hand try asking one of our many spriters.

Edit: although game maker is quite lame some times it at least gives you a small dip into the world of actionscript, although I prefer media heavy hitters like MacroMedia Flash MX 2007 Edition

TSR has some good AW sprites, but there missing every nation, except OS. Not a big problem, most of the sprites are copies of each other with there "Action" in different places.

It might be the biggest, but it's still not complete

It might be a beginners tool, but also perfect for advanced 2D games, mainly those using sprites. :)
And the program is very user friendly. It requires a lot less hassle for sometimes even better results. I find Flash for example, much less useful for building big games. It requires much more time!

Atom Collector was my first game. I made it completely with drag-and-drop coding. Now I code everything almost completely in GML (Game Maker Language, has a very flexible syntax and is similar to C++). I can integrate shooting in the engine in a matter of minutes, but I always build a new engine for a new game :P

I would gladly make Custom Combat. Hell, I could make it a complete game with tons of COs (and the ability to put your own in), powers, units and whatnot! Just stop with the sarcasm smilies... >_>

I'll soon be posting another game I'm making, it'll show you what I can do ;)
