I found this site from ghos7ayama when he told me that Custom Wars was better then AWBW on AWN.

So now I'm here. I see that you guys have forums for all the parts of the game, I hope I can help out!!

Are all those guys at the top of the screen new COs?

Hey there, and welcome to CW! Yes, the COs you see at the top of the specific skin you're using are indeed new ones that have made it in to the project, and they all should be playable in the latest beta version.

If you'd like to help out, I'd suggest simply downloading the game and beginning to play the game with others in order to properly test for balance issues and bugs, since it'd help out our crew of developers immensely; as it stands, we're not really accepting or encouraging any more custom content, so we'd rather you download the game and tell us what you think.

I didn't have too many ideas for stuff anyway! Maybe a ninja in Yellow Comet or something, but you guys probably have that handled already since it was such an obvious thought.

Can you make new units? I see an official unit forum, but no place to make new ones...

No, new units are too much of a headache for us at the moment. It used to be, but it was just ridiculous amounts of chaos.

We axed the new unit forums because there were no good ideas coming from it.

And all of the ones that were were snipers.

We went through all the possibilities of everything already. Unless you REALLY think outside the box, don't count on your custom made things getting in.

We need programmers, so if you're good at that, get involved. The least you could do is play the game and post any bugs or issues we're not informed of. Try to avoid being a social parasite.

Snipers would be good if they're balanced, but I don't see that happening.

Trying to achieve balance means trying to make everything fair. Nothing too powerful, nothing useless, etc. CW is trying to make it so you can play a game of AW and have it be all about skill, not whose officer is better or whatever.

I like Deoxy's explanation of balance - but I gotta bring up the sniper issue. First of all, what would a sniper be capable of attacking in the first place?

You'd hang out in somewhere hidden and you'd just snipe off infantry from a distance.

Of course, the bullets wouldn't go very far resulting in crappy firing range <_<

TW: Also, on the issue of balance, to make it brief...when you play on AWBW, there are three particular COs which are considered extremely overpowered or "broken" - Colin, Grit and Hachi. Some argue that Jess is in this category as well, but basically when those COs are overpowered it means any player, such as a newcomer can use them and easily have an enormous advantage over the other player.
You'll notice this a lot if you play AW against friends in real life, and they keep beating you with Colin or Grit and you're not happy with it, being that you've played it for longer and this and that. What balance does is settle these issues and make these characters so you can play fairly, or play in such a way that the game becomes more focused on skill rather than who has a cheaper strategy.

They could kill infantry, other snipers, mechs, and recons!

The recons aren't concealed in anyway. If you look at the sprites, you can clearly see the gunmen and driver can be... well, shot.

Snipers could do that pretty easily, I think. :D

I think it was something along the lines of Snipers would only be able to target infantry units (since these are presumably cheap, making the ranged as the mortar is would just be asking for massed rape).

Since they only attack infantry units, they should deal high amounts of damage to them - but as they're indirect, they can't move and fire. Plus, infantry would be so incredibly limited that at any reasonable pricing they'd be made obsolete by the recon. To be honest, the recon has 8 movement points. It can hit most everything that a decent ranged unit can, and it is specialized to hit harder against infantry.

If you increase the range, you increase the price, making it obsolete due to the recon.
If you decrease the range, you render a sniper useless because an infantry would be able to walk out of the range, or sneak into the blind spot.

And that is why I believe the sniper is useless, but I may be wrong.
