About that... what are your plans regarding art? Has anyone in the team been thinking about the graphics, the art style etc? 100% replacement of everything, or just additional sprites for the new characters and units?

Keep in mind that 100% total conversion is going to be a mountain of work and may well be out of scope for a team of just one or two artists. At the very least it would be a smart move to only focus on the new elements at first and leave replacement of stuff like terrains and units for later on in the project, if do that at all. This approach would probably require that the art style remains somewhat similar to AW2 to keep things looking consistent.

I'm well aware that it's a mountain of work. I am doing the lion's share, personally.

I've been working at it on and off since late 2008.

As far as graphical elements go - that's probably the most 'up in the air' thing at the moment. x0_000 said he'd be interested in doing some work for CO sprites and the like but I'm not holding him to ransom about it. Regardless, I'm converting his music into the format used by AW2 and getting his keen musical ear for advice as I do it.

GUI Elements is mostly going to be me screwing around with things until they look nice...I have to do a lot of random work anyhow for various features I want to add and it requires a lot of screwing around. That being said fiddling around with it is probably easier than you'd expect in terms of how it looks in AW2 at least. There's only so much you can do anyhow as the interface is limited in various ways.

Units currently only have placeholder sprites (They don't even have the map movement animations, just stationary ones) and it's likely to save a significant amount of manpower animated battles will probably be culled unless I can find a really simple way of putting them together.

But I do have a 'plan' for the overall style...I just need to spend the time putting it together and there are a lot of pieces that need doing. It will help, however that most of the work will just be tweaking what IS has.

As far as terrain goes, I have a few things planned for that....

Could you explain how exactly you are doing this...
I know you can download rom's but modifying them?
How does that work. It's not like you have the source code. So you decompile it make some changes, and then compile again?

or is it a customwars mod.
