Hello, I have played the first Advance Wars for years and still play it a lot on long journeys. In future I'd like to dedicate some free time to contributing toward the advance wars engine. I am not currently available but just wanted to point out that it wasn't clear where the source repository lay. Could you please provide a link to the source repository so that interested parties could browse/comment? I recommend spring loops(closed) or google code (open).

The source code is included with the game downloads.

As for help, it'll most likely be sooner than anything, the site is pretty dead right now with the exception of Narts...

I appreciate the source is bundled in the jar file but speaking as a prospective contributor, I would be more inclined to work upon a project that was managed openly and I could view the source code commits incrementally. I work for a few other open source projects and we have a code repository of which everyone can commit to, comment on online and keep up to date via email alert when ever changes are made. This way you don't have to do a build in order to push out the most recent changes and everyone feels bang up to date. A repository like google code gives you this stuff for free and it only takes 10min to set up. I recommend it. Also I briefly tried to run the project from source and found there to be no source provided for the following: lobbyclient, pbot, soundtest, fobbahtools.
Also, if you have any ant scripts to automate the build could you include them?

As far as I'm aware, the sources are only available on the filehost (which contains all the binary and source releases since the earliest alphas)

If you want to set up a repository you're welcome

In fact whatever you want to do you're welcome, since active development of the game has been pretty much dead for over half a year.

Well since it was so easy I've went ahead and created the repository and a group to which all commits are emailed.

Code repository: http://code.google.com/p/customwars/
Commit alert group: http://groups.google.com/group/customwars-commits

I only added the source code that was in the binary file. I did not include any class files as I figured people could add the real source later.
Who are/were the main commiters of the project? If someone can provide me with their email addresses, I'll get them signed up as commiters to this repository. Maybe all that is needed is a little burst of activity to start things rolling again. Also, who is the project owner and I'll hand over control of the repository.

Uhhh... that's just it. There is no project leader at this time, (unless Sven wants to defend that title...) I dunno if the old people come around here enough to get their e-mail info. But if they do, I hope they'll post up.

In the meantime, add me to that Google repository. Check your PM for my e-mail address.

Peace.

So could anyone help me out with the missing source code that I mentioned?

lobbyclient, pbot, soundtest, fobbahtools

These are all included as class files.
Narts: you mentioned filehost which I presume is the directory where the files are sourced from on the server as it is referenced in the link. Is there anywhere I have overlooked the presence of these files, if so could someone please correct me and help me locate them?

The filehost I was referring to: http://www.customwars.com/filehost/

There were many contributors but urusan is the guy who more or less single-handedly made Custom Wars. Go bug him at his site. He's probably the best guy to ask about anything related to the code, even if he is refusing to actually work on CW any longer.

Ok, I will try and track him down to obtain a version of the source code that a full build can be done from.
I take it urusan's site is customwars.com. I'll try and contact him. If anyone has any of his personal details then please pm them to me.

Are there any actual plans here to do anything or something? I'm confused.

I think he was trying to gather up all the old programmers who worked on CW. He started to gather them, then I haven't heard from him since. This game is probably still frozen until he resurfaces to tell us what is going on.
