CO Sanjuro
Yellow Comet

Sanjuro is a mercenary samurai CO. Though materialistic, he follows a strict code of honor. Once he's accepted a job, he will see it through to the end regardless of how difficult it may be or what other opportunities may be available. He believes in honest work and honest pay, and hates people who conduct shady business dealings.

Sanjuro constantly makes fine adjustments to his army's weapons and supplies, improving their efficiency when he has more funds available.

D2D
-For every X amount that his funds exceed his income, his units get +1% attack, where X is equal to 8% of his income. (This is calculated at the beginning of his turn after repairs, or when he gets switched in.)

Powers: xxxXXX

COP: Heart of Gold
-When his units take combat damage, he gains funds equal to half the value of the damage.

SCOP: Buying Power
-When a unit is built, units of that type get +50% attack, +30% defense, have perfect movement, and have their cost reduced to 25%. (The bonuses don't stack if you build more than one of the same unit.)

Power quotes:
"Time to earn my pay..."
"So you want to see my strength? Consider this a free sample!"
"My skills are expensive...and worth every penny."
"Can you hope to stand against a true professional?"

POWER OF MONEY D2D! *falls in love*

*cough* anyway, this is basically a non situational Kanbei, since the higher costs won't damage the capture phase, since it is income dependant, mostly. Although you can always save your money for one day or two if you have units enough and want to go on offensive. I can see it working, since it is exploitable and way less situational than Kanbei. But, you are right, he is maybe too similar to Kanbei.

But still..

POWER OF MONEY D2D!! *falls in love*

The COP is like a reverse Sasha SCOP right?

The fact that it's calculated at the beginning of every turn DOES make it less exploitable, but something bugs me about it. I'll have to get back to you later on that...

Isn't a Yojimbo a bodyguard?
Thats like naming him "CO Samurai" or "CO Knight"
Its an occupation, not a name

Then again...
I could just be wrong

And also, Sensei means teacher XD
So I suppose tis a passable name

Still, he is too much like Kanbei, even creative-section wise

[ nice stuff though ]

lol @ the movie "yojimbo" and the samurai in it the movie is named after

Though IMO, if Yojimbo tags with Grimm, Grimm HAS to call Yojimbo "Jimmy" >_>

God damn you people are greedy little bastards.

Anyways: It's a solid concept all around, I like it. I think you might need to tone down the SCOP a tad, however.

Yeah true

Default boosts... +10/+10
Offense +40: (4x1) 4 stars
Defense +20: (2x1.5) 3 stars
That's 7 stars already... then you add the 50% off...

It only applies to three or four different kinds of units though, and that's if you build something different at every base and don't make use of the price-reduction ability.

And yes, I was thinking of the movie Yojimbo when I gave him that name. Saw it a few days ago on cable. Good eye, Kosh.

Basically the dynamic with him D2D is that you can build cheap units and save up money, building up your stats, but the longer you do that, the more it's going to cost you when you need to spend your money, thus paying high prices for units and having your stats be lower the next day.

Actually, you can't really buy cheap units, since his units are always more expensive than normal >_>.

Small brainwave: maybe you can make the initial cost lower than 100%, something like 85% and maybe make the % raise per 1000G, I don't know. But with the initial cost being lower than 100%, it becomes less Kanbei-ish

what happens when Yoji uses his COP vs Hasim?

Hasim's D2D depletes 15% of the units value when he hits an enemy unit, if I understand correctly.

Let's say Yojimbo has 15000 in the bank and he's got 110% costs. If Hasim 1HKO'd one of his infantry during COP...that'd be 550 funds for Yojimbo (1100/2) minus 15% of the infantry's cost (165), so Yojimbo would get 385 funds total.

Thats like being named "Trash Collector", "Pilot", or even more hilariously... "CO CO"
XD

Besides, Kurosawa probably intended "Yojimbo" to be a title for his character, not truly his name
( like "Genghis Khan" meant "Oceanic Prince", his real name was Temuchin )

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the name should be changed...
Sensei pulled the same card with AW2

But it is an occupation rather than a name

[ I think? XD Oy, I am so confused ]

From what I can tell, yeah, it's a title for ronin and samurai acting as bodyguards for hire and other mercenary roles. At the very least, Yojimbo isn't turning up in any name databases I'm checking out.

But, hey, as long as no one notices and thinks it's a cool name... >_>

Yojimbo is a freakin awesome movie...

If you have not seen it, then I pity you...

So what if it's the word for bodyguard? That'd be like naming a CO Sensei, which means teacher. OR WOULD IT?!?!

<_<

Okay, I had a new idea for the D2D that makes it less Kanbei-ish.

For every 1000 funds he has above his income, he gets +1% attack. For every 1000 funds less, he gets -1% attack. Calculated at the start of his turn, after repairs/upkeep. (So, if you spent all your money last turn, and some repairs get done, you'll be weak on the next turn.)

Same powers.

How's that?

The concept may work, but I believe the number right now may be too extreme. For example, if you save for one day on a medium-big map, you can get 20% attack for one turn and then spend it on the end. On the opposite side, income depleting (Alexander and Edward) powers do much more damage than normal against this guy, and MD and repair (Yukio, Kindle and Falcone) also can easily deplete someof the money. Maybe you should make the G needed to change the power bigger, making him more solid.

The COP seems good and I don't like the SCOP, but thats more personal bias than balance.

Keep in mind that as the game goes on you'll be able to start sitting on some funds and keeping his attack up every turn. If you're smart about using the COP it'd be easy to get a buffer of funds going and basically be Hawke with no disadvantages.

Well, in my experience, games don't last very long. Twelve ~ Sixteen days, usually.

He's not really the stalling type with that kind of powers, so...

That's true, I suppose. His D2D won't be very effective in small casual games. The problem is that if I beef it up, he'll get ridiculous on big maps or other drawn-out games.

I'm starting to miss his old dynamic, where saving money had a downside to go with the upside, but I doubt he'd be able to get in simply being a variable Kanbei.

EDIT: Oh wait, I had another idea. How about:
-For every 10% that his funds exceed his income, he gets +1% attack.
So on a map where you have 10000 income you get +1% per every 1000 funds over your income, and on a map where you have 15000 income you get +1% per 1500 funds. Each full day's worth of funds you have saved up gives you 10% attack.

It's workable but underpowered. Besides Peter, MD COs rape you (lol Falcone), as well as Alexander. Get rid of the weakness, and probably boost the strength to 1% per 1000g, maybe even 2% per 1500g. I mean, really, you need to save up 7500g for 105/100 stats, and those would be considered workable for a solid, no-questions-asked day-to-day. <_< I'd suggest 2% per 1500g since not buying that tank so you can get 110/100 is a fairly dangerous trade. With that COP, though, it might get a bit strong.

I'll abstain from commenting on the SCOP for now.

Sorry, I'm still getting adjusted to the Hawke-is-the-yardstick state of mind.

A CO WITH A D2D STRENGTH AND NO WEAKNESSES? THIS IS HERESY! THIS IS MADNESS!

Still, I think it's a little easier to save up funds than you think, and we need to balance him according to situations that would favor him. He could easily get broken on big maps if his bonus is too large, which is why I suggested the scaling thing.

Alright, updated first post with scaling D2D and somewhat buffed SCOP.

Not getting many comments, does that mean I should go and write up a real bio and start getting some rates?
